Why are you in this career?

Because I love it! It’s as simple as that! I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience in this wonderful industry for over 30 years. The progression of styles and trends intrigues me and I am a total product knowledge junkie.  I just love to know the ins and outs of everything in this ever-changing industry.

Why did you open Suzanne Wilson Hair & Beauty?

My career as a hairdresser has taken many different paths from time to time. I have been employed as a senior stylist in other salons and after gaining my degree, I became a lecturer in further education colleges. My career has also involved being a work-based assessor and a craft educator for the company Matrix.  In August 2013 I decided to take the plunge and open my first salon within the Blackwell Grange Hotel, Darlington. I didn’t know how this would pan out or if it would even be successful. However, I embraced the challenge and within the first 2 years the business grew way beyond my expectations. As a result, the premises became too small to cope with the demand.  Once again i took on a new challenge to move to bigger premises. I was thrilled to find this fantastic salon in such a great location in Billingham. I fully refurbished, giving the salon a new feel and embarked on hiring a highly skilled team of stylists.  I made this transition from being employed to owning my own business because I wanted to share my knowledge and passion with my clients, and build up the careers of other young, up and coming stylists.

Why do your salon clients love you?

I think it is because I take the time to listen to them. I really question what it is they would like from their hair, and I always give them realistic expectations and tips on how to achieve their salon look at home. I like my clients to know that they are not just “an appointment”. Every customer is important to me and I create their own personal hair journey based on what they would like to achieve. My team are aware that customer service is of a high standard and it has become important to them to always deliver excellent service. I would like to think that my clients appreciate this and that I always try to exceed their expectations.

What is your message to your clients?

Thank you for your loyalty and support.  My mission is to deliver an outstanding, consistent experience to every single client that walks through the doors of Suzanne Wilson Hair & Beauty and establish long lasting relationships. I want your service to be memorable, professional and delivered by an expert, using the best quality brands possible at affordable prices. So, my message to you is “I will continue to upskill and inspire my staff to the highest levels. I will listen to you, the client, to keep improving my business and I will continue to serve the community with the best customer service possible.”

Why are you in this career?

I love meeting new people and being able to change how someone feels about themselves through simply walking through the door, whether it is a complete change or just a simple blow dry and a chat I love making a difference to my client’s day. I love being a hairdresser and never get bored because there is always some new trend or style which further develops my skills.

Why did you choose to work at Suzanne Wilson Hair & Beauty?

I love this salon as I feel so valued. Being part of a team where we are constantly encouraged to progress and make suggestions for improvement makes me want to always do my best. The clients who visit Suzanne Wilson Hair & Beauty are so lovely and it is a breath of fresh air to be given the time to spend with them not only to do their hair but to give the best customer service.

Why do your salon clients love you?

I am me, no one else, just me!  I will always give an honest opinion and offer suggestions based on the client requirements and if it is achievable based on whether it compliments their features and hair type, so they can walk out of the door and feel amazing.

What is your story that will inspire others?

I started hairdressing slightly later than most school leavers as I was put off by another salon that made me feel it wasn’t for me. After doing a few different courses I realised that I missed hairdressing and my older self made me try again and I am so glad I did! So, my message to you is “I will always promise to give my best, I am doing what I love. If anyone asks me what I do for a living I don’t say just a hairdresser – I proudly say I am a hairdresser with a smile on my face.”

Why are you in this career?

I choose this career because I thrive from making other people feel good about themselves. My passion and creativity are exhibited every day and I feel so much joy when my guests continue to choose me as their stylist. Work doesn’t feel like work when you love your job!

Why did you choose to work at Suzanne Wilson Hair & Beauty?

Training!! Suzanne always encourages us to go on training courses and carries out in salon training and she supports us in progressing within our career. Hairdressing styles and colours are forever changing and, in this salon, we are always evolving

Why do your salon clients love you?

Because I want them to feel amazing and have the best experience ever whilst under my care in the salon. I look after my guests from start to finish and guide them in the right direction with their overall look and home care maintenance. They know I want them to feel amazing.

What is your story that will inspire others?

Whilst undergoing my training I realised that a visit to the salon is more than a haircut or colour, and that every guest has a different reason for their visit whether it is for a few hours to chill, maintenance for their hair or just a treat. So, my message to you is “I promise to give you my undivided attention from start to finish, to continue to grow my skills as a hairdresser and guarantee you the best experience regardless of the reason for your visit.”

Why are you in this career?

I really can’t imagine myself enjoying any other job as much as I enjoy this one. I have a need to be constantly learning something new and you most certainly learn something new every day!

Why did you choose to work at Suzanne Wilson Hair & Beauty?

I first entered the salon as a nervous 16-year-old work placement student. I was given jobs to do and was taught lots of skills and procedures all in one week. I requested that I went back to Suzanne Wilson Hair in my second year at college to do a further week’s placement but I was much more confident the second time around which resulted in Suzanne offering me a part time job. This in turn then led to me being offered an NVQ Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship which I accepted without any hesitation. I am now a full-time Hair and Brow Stylist!

I enjoy the people I work with, the people I get to meet, the salons routines and professionalism. Most of all, I am always learning something new and encouraged to progress in my career.

Why do your salon clients love you?

I think it is my smile! I am chatty and quite outgoing and love to meet all of the people that visit our salon. They affectionately call me ‘Little Jen!” and I love the role of customer service. My clients really appreciate this and it has assisted in the building of my column, enabling me to gain clients of my own. I am now running a full column of hair, brows and lashes!

What is your story that will inspire others?

I had been training for two years at Middlesbrough College and gained my Level 2 Hairdressing qualification with a Distinction. Part of my training was to find a work placement to which I did – here at Suzanne Wilson Hair and Beauty. Juggling both college and work was overwhelming at times. Learning both practical skills and the theory behind them could be stressful, however the workplace gave me a great insight into how to transfer my skills from a college environment into the workplace. I was always encouraged and advised that it would be worth it in the end. Now I’m a full-time stylist and working a busy column. My message to you all is ““the long hours and hard work will give you the results that you had always hoped and dreamed of!”

Why are you in this career?

I enjoy everything there is about my profession. I find great joy in helping people feel more confident and beautiful!! I love doing it for people who can’t do it themselves. It warms my heart to know that I can be somewhat of help to others.

Why did you choose to work at Suzanne Wilson Hair & Beauty?

Because it’s like no other salon I’ve been in or worked in. I’m lucky to work with such talented girls. Suzanne makes sure we stay up to date on the latest trends and this helps to provide my clients with a great experience.

Why do your salon clients love you?

I will always do my best to make them happier leaving the salon than how they felt walking in. Every visit, I look at my clients in the salon with a fresh pair of eyes and love offering a change when needed.

What is your story that will inspire others?

“Do it with passion or not at all” if you know me already, you know this is me down to a ‘t’. My job is what I’m passionate about! If you don’t know me, book in with me and you will see.

Why are you in this career?

I have been in this industry for 25 years in teaching and stylist roles and can honestly say working with a fantastic group of people and constantly learning new techniques is great. The feeling you get from clients walking through the door looking one way and leaving feeling fabulous is why I do this job! It gives me an enormous amount of pleasure when clients give us the chance to recreate and change their look, sometimes with no holds barred!!!

Why did you choose to work at Suzanne Wilson Hair & Beauty?

In a word…. Suzanne!!! She encaptures the very body of professionalism and her training is second to none! She ensures we all keep up to date with the latest trends and colouring techniques which can then be passed onto the clients with confidence.

Why do your salon clients love you?

At the moment I am the new girl on the block but I’m sure my clients will say that I listen carefully to their wishes and always do everything with a smile on my face! I am a chatter box but like to make sure all my clients leave the salon feeling a million dollars and have had a giggle along the way!

What is your story that will inspire others?

I came into hairdressing a little older than most, I was in my mid twenty’s after an injury stopped me carrying on with my previous career. Once I got the “hairdressing bug” I was hooked, completing my training as a fast track student. I worked in a salon for 18 years and also completed my assessor’s award and my certificate in education whilst working and bringing up my two boys!! Hard work….yes, worth it.,. definitely!! After teaching and assessing apprentices for over 20 years, I now feel it’s time for a change and continue doing what I love….making clients feel valued and special !!

I have always been interested in both hair and beauty and I feel starting with hair is a good place to start.

I have heard many good things about Suzanne Wilson Hair and Beauty I decided to apply for a trial day and loved both the atmosphere and all the girls are a lovely bunch to work with.

Everyone loves a little chat when they are getting their hair shampooed and if there’s one thing I’m good at it’s definitely being able to have a nice chat!

As I was only 16 working with my dad I wanted to have a career path to go down so I followed what interested me the most and decided to look for apprenticeships in Hairdressing. I was so grateful when Suzanne offered me an apprenticeship. I couldn’t think of anywhere with more knowledgeable and amazing stylists to look up on. I have also embarked on a nail course whilst on my apprenticeship, and I am happy to be adding qualifications to my belt as I go along. So, I promise the best in both hair and nails.
